  • Spring roll wrappers
    2 sheets
  • Cake flour (Pastry flour) and water mixture
    1 tsp
  • Japanese leek
    1
  • Japanese pickled plum paste (Bainiku)
    1 tsp
  • Green shiso leaves
    6 sheets
  • Frying oil
    as needed

How to make

  1. Prepare. Cut Japanese leek according to the width of spring roll wrappers. Remove the stem of green shiso leaves.
  2. 1. Make a vertical slit on Japanese leek, peel off one piece of the outer layer, apply Japanese pickled plum paste (bainiku), and put it back.
  3. 2. Place green shiso leaves and Step 1 on the front of spring roll wrappers.
  4. 3. Roll it from the front, fasten it with a cake flour (pastry flour) and water mixture, and cut it into 4 equal pieces.
  5. 4. Pour 1 inch depth of frying oil into a pot, heat to 170℃ (338°F), fry for about 2 minutes until get colored, then drain the oil.
  6. 5. Transfer to a plate and it's ready to serve.
