  • Firm tofu
    200 g
  • Starch
    1 tbsp
  • Frying oil
    as needed
  • Daikon radish
    100 g
  • Noodle soup base (Mentsuyu)
    60 ml
  • Water
    200 ml
  • Toppings
  • Young green onion (Konegi)
    as needed

How to make

  1. Prepare. Cut the firm tofu into 4 equal pieces.
  2. 1. Peel and grate the daikon radish.
  3. 2. Wrap the firm tofu in a paper towel, place it on a heat-resistant plate, and microwave for 1 minute at 600W without plastic wrap. Once cooled, remove the paper towel and coat it entirely with starch.
  4. 3. Pour 1-inch depth of frying oil into a pot, heat to 180℃ (360°F), and deep-fry them for about 2 minutes until the batter becomes crispy, then drain the oil.
  5. 4. Mix Step 1, noodle soup base (mentsuyu) and water in a large heat-resistant bowl, cover it loosely with plastic wrap, and microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds at 600W.
  6. 5. Plate Step 3 in bowls, pour in Step 4, sprinkle young green onion (konegi), and it’s ready to serve.

Tips for cooking

You can make it with the silk tofu as well. In that case, please be careful when handling it because it crumbles more easily than the firm tofu. Heating conditions may vary depending on the type of microwave, the type of heat-resistant container, and the condition of the ingredients.
