How about some shiso leaf and ginger flavored thinly sliced pork char siu? Since we use thinly sliced pork, it's affordable, and you can easily make it as a side dish to go with rice. It has a rich flavor, so we also recommend having it with Japanese rice wine (sake). Please try it!

Ingredients

  • Thinly sliced pork
    400 g
  • Salt and pepper mix
    1/2 tsp
  • Grated ginger
    1 tbsp
  • Green shiso leaves
    10 sheets
  • Cake flour (Pastry flour)
    2 tbsp
  • (A)Cooking sake
    3 tbsp
  • (A)Soy sauce
    2 tbsp
  • (A)Miso
    1 tbsp
  • (A)Sugar
    1 tbsp
  • (A)Grated ginger
    2 tsp
  • Salad oil
    2 tsp

How to make

  1. Prepare. Cut off the stem from the green shiso leaves.
  2. 1. Roughly chop the green shiso leaves.
  3. 2. Put ingredient(A) in a bowl and mix.
  4. 3. Spread thinly sliced pork on a plastic wrap, sprinkle salt and pepper mix on top, spread grated ginger, and place the shiso leaves from step 1 on top. Sprinkle half of the cake flour (pastry flour) on top, and roll tightly from the front.
  5. 4. Leave in the refrigerator for 20 minutes, then coat with the rest of cake flour (pastry flour).
  6. 5. Put cooking oil into the heated pan over medium heat, add the rolled pork from Step 4, and when it browns, add the seasoning mix from Step 2.
  7. 6. Simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes while rolling. Remove from heat once the flavors have been absorbed and cooked through.
  8. 7. Cut into bite-sized pieces, serve on a plate and it is ready!

Tips for cooking

In Step 3, please make sure to wrap tightly so that the thin sliced pork does not fall apart. After adding the seasoning, it will burn easily, so please be careful. It will be easier to handle if you slice it after it cools down.
