Ingredients
12 castellas

  • Pancake mix
    150 g
  • Eggs
    1
  • Milk
    120 ml
  • Honey
    1 tbsp
  • Japanese sweet cooking wine (Mirin)
    1 tbsp
  • Salad oil
    1 tbsp
  • Granulated Sugar
    2 tbsp

How to make

  1. 1. Put pancake mix, egg and milk in a bowl and mix well.
  2. 2. Add the honey and Japanese sweet cooking wine (mirin) and mix well.
  3. 3. Heat up the takoyaki pan and spread a thin layer of cooking oil. Pour the batter into about 50% of the hole in the takoyaki pan and cook.
  4. 4. When the surface swells, take out 1 piece and attach it to another. Once 2 pieces are attached together, roll the sides as well and cook the rest in the same way, then take them out once it is cooked through.
  5. 5. Sprinkle granulated sugar all over the castella from Step 4 and it's done!

Tips for cooking

This recipe uses honey. Please be careful not to let children below the age of 1 (infants) consume them. You can substitute honey with sugar, but since the sweetness varies depending on the type, we recommend adjusting the taste to your liking. Please adjust the heat accordingly. Please adjust the sweetness to your liking. If you can adjust the temperature of electric griddle, set it to medium temperature, around 180°C (360°F). For this recipe we used an electric griddle that is 8-inch x 12-inch in size.
